The work references Pellucidar - the inner world of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Burroughs wrote a series of books about Pellucidar from 1914. It is fitting to locate the proposed work ‘under the library’ – not only as a reference to books/libraries but also the subterranean parallels between the subject and the site. In the book an inventive contraption carrying two men drills through the earth’s crust and encounters an alternate world on the inner crust of the earth, with an orb of eternal sun in the centre and the horizon cupping upwards.

This work references concepts of place, time and earth and exploits a notion of other worldliness and alternate perceptions existing below our feet. It transports the observer to another place through the reimagining of another reality to see the familiar in a new way.
